One Soul At A Time

I looked forward to this evening, since the appointment was made. I have known Konga for three years now. He has a difficult appearance and dread in the estate by some but supposedly unfriendly. And kept a small circle of hardcore friends that look alike, tattoos, earrings and intimidating muscles. I didn't know what he makes of me, a missionary. We have had just a few cordial greetings nothing much. But day and night I have desired to share the gospel with every single soul in this estate. After three years of seeing someone five days of the week makes starting a simple conversation less suspicious. I walked up to him a week earlier, on a Tuesday morning, smiled and tried a short chat. I didn't intend to blast off with a holier-than-thou repent-or-you-perish evangelistic jargons. I just wanted simple spark of friendly communication, and that I got. And much more! I got a smile, an invitation inside, more importantly an appointment to share the good news of salvati...

The Harvest is Plentiful

The Republic of Guinea, with its capital Conakry in West Africa has 96% of its population as Muslims while a mere 2% are Christians. Even then, there is freedom of religion and Christians can hold meetings, evangelize and baptize freely without fear of persecution. The Republic of Chad, the nation of Niger are equally Islam dominated countries yet have a very high level of freedom of worship. Missionaries and believers could take advantage and preach the gospel while it is still permissive. Years ago a brother from Nigeria, a businessman that I know had some business deals in far away Mali. And since he was staying a couple of weeks, he decided to share his faith. It was effective. Within weeks he was able to leave behind 12 believers. He saw the need because he was conscious of the state of the field. He didn't just go to make money, he went also as God's ambassador in business. The Church today is lagging behind when you compare us to the foresight of Muslims...

THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE ENABLER

Right from Genesis chapter 1 to Revelation22, the presence and manifestation of the Holy Spirit is prominent. The Spirit of God is not a silent observer but a key player in God's planning and execution. Jesus had an extraordinary ministry as he walked the face of the earth. It is interesting that Jesus at age 12 knew all he needed to know about God and the Scriptures. In the temple among the most learned, astute and law experts in the Sanhedrin he demonstrated superiority and excellence that the elders of Israel were left bewildered. One day, a melancholic but pragmatic Nicodemus was beyond curiosity, came to Jesus by night and honestly wanted  the truth. And he began to express his excitement about his observation. Jesus was not a man given to praises. He cut through the cheese and laid it out to him. John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh,...

Compassion, The Melting Point

By David Pam McQuel As the millennium strolled in, my young wife and I were heading for forlough. The last year of the 20th century was quite stressful on the mission field. Although we saw lives changing, the fellowship of disciples growing we struggled with personal and family challenges. We were still early in our married life, our closeness and intimacy was our immunity against the devils whiles. Arriving home was a great moment of joy. We were seeing family,  friends and colleagues we haven't seen for years. The ministry gave us a 2-weeks break to visit our folks. What we thought would be a short furlough ended up a 3-long-years hold. I want to share a story that I encountered trying to bring a Jehovah Witness to the light. While I pastored in Keffi, a growing sub metro less than 20 kilometres from Abuja,  the political capital of Nigeria. Coming back from the mission field this church was in crisis. The ministry needed matured pastor to stabilize the s...

Thirty Pieces of Silver, The Price

Judas is the most tragic story Jesus would have avoided if he could. On the night he was betrayed, He showed his disciples the full loaded extent of his compassion for them. He removed his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist and bent down to serve them affectionately. John 13. This was a new level they were seeing. Jesus went full emotional mode and wrapped his fingers around in his palms, almost in tears. They were not just his staff, after the price He was to pay will make them His brothers, His very own. The disciples were dumbfounded, not knowing how to respond. When Peter tried to respond, he made a fool of himself. Jesus approached Peter to pour agape on him, Peter got into the flesh, 6 "He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” and 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” After much explanation, still ignorant Peter screamed hysterically as a sanguine would, 9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not j...

The Heart Of It

Every history has her most most significant season. Every movement has her core idea. Every success has her kicking key. And every sweet biography has her most significant moment. There are many aspects of the Christian faith very important to christians. So many of these key landmarks of the faith are cherished by active practicing Christian for example Old Testament accounts of the Creation, Noah and the great deluge, The Exodus from Egypt, The giving of the Law, The Conquest of Canaan, The period of the judges and then the kings, etc. In the New Testament it starts with The never heard-of Virgin Birth of Christ, then explosive ministry of John the Baptist, Then Jesus and His non comparable ministry, His Teachings and His Miracles, then Jesus died and rose of which not a single one of those around him understood at that time what was going on. From the first day of the week when Jesus rose, 40 days later in broad daylight, before about 120 of his disciples Jesus was lift...

WHAT YOUR CHILD NEEDS MOST

Parenthood is very exciting. Seeing your own child born is one of the most electrifying things in life. It's hard for us to explain. When my first son, Gold, was born I was right beside my wife all through the labour. Initially I felt guilty for putting her through such a life threatening ordeal. I will spare you the details. But the spellbinding amazement when the tiny thing finally came out and the midwife cleaned him and handed him over to me, to welcome him with sweet godly words and bless him as biblical tradition shows, I was speechles at first. Finding words to speak was hard without an inspiration. Every tiny bit of that little, perfect and glorious baby was lifegiving, inspiring and peace-inducing. My world changed within minutes and I didn't know neither who he was nor who I was. I lacked words to thank Gloria. I told her this is your son, as if I needed to give him to her as a gift. He was already hers. She carried him for 9 months and laboured for hal...
