CHURCH'S DEBT TO THE WORLD

The pride of the Church in any nation is not the number of large Cathedrals, public approval ratings or glamorous political considerations she receives but the number of converts, the growing of disciples and the number of nations she turns from idolatry to faith in Christ Jesus. Sometimes we are so wrapped up in excitement seeing how the church in her diversity is spread across our nation, the opposition of those days disappear and the Church finds increase acceptability. This excites us as we find a sense of satisfaction and achievement. We finally relax and begin to evolve. A man finely put his thoughts this way:      Hard time produce smart men ➡ Smart men produce good times ➡ Good times produce weak men ➡ weak men produce hard times➡ Hard times produce smart men If you observe very carefully, the above chart is a never ending circle. This can be said of the Church. "There is nothing in the world or the Church — except the church's disobedience — to...

BEFORE THE SUNSET

Years ago I had an interesting chat with an aged man who expressed his excitement when he saw how some of us young people yielded to God and were serving God with so much energy. It was something he would love to do, it was something his heart would love to but his body could not carry. Jesus, after his resurrection, talking to Peter, said in John 21:18 "Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” There are two phases to life that Jesus was bringing forth to Peter to shed light on a very important truth. There is the daylight of life when Peter is in control of his life. Then, he can do what he wants and go where he wishes to. He can chose what he wants and have the freedom to be who he wants. But there comes a time when he has no control of the most basic things like dressing up and taking...

The 21st Century Church

It is still staggering how theological and religious leaders are still groppling with the debate whether we should use modern music equipment in church? If it is ethical for women to wear makeup or trousers to worship services? If wealth and financial excellence are good Christian status? And recently, if high tech devices should carry Bible and religious applications? Plain stupid arguments for me. Unlike Islam, the Church is lost in the past. Singing "Give me that Old Time religion" can be emotional and move you to tears when you remember how things used to be in good old days. The Muslim brutal jihadists have done rather excellently in adapting to the changing times. Isn't it amazing that no matter how strict Europe is a free gun zone and with the strick monitoring of the movement of chemicals and acids, Islamic terrorists breakthrough and either attempt or succeed in carrying out daring terrorist missions. A decade and a half ago, it was unimaginable that large...

THE MAKING OF AN EFFECTIVE MISSION FIELD

The goal of Christian mission is to carry out the great commission Jesus left for those who believe in him. Matthew 28:   18  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Acts 1:8 " But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;  and you will be my witnesses  in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,  and to the ends of the earth.” Take note that Jesus did not say in either passage that a group of the disciples should reach the whole world and disciple the nations. He didn't say some from among you will remain in Jerusalem, while a few of you will go to Judea, then when you are done head on to ...

The World is a Mission Field

In 1967, a young missionary from Germany Reinhard and Annie Bonnke and their little son arrived the shores of South Africa following in the footsteps of countless hundreds of thousands of European and American missionaries who laid down their lives in Africa, Asia and South America. As the Bonnkes worked in Africa, he became more and more restless, dissatisfied with the results the apostolic mission fields was producing. He had seen a persistent vision of an Africa blood washed. The apostolic missions saw South Africa as their allotted portion to evangelize, but Bonnke saw all of Africa from Cape Town to Cairo, from Kenya to Cape Verde. He once calculated the number of years it would take his mission post to reach the 700 million population of Africa as per the results of their converts then. He came to an astounding approximation that it would take 5000 years to win those 700 million Africans. He realized that they need a better strategy of reaching more people en mass. He saw th...
