THE CLUELESS CHURCH

By   D a v i d     P a m     M c Q u e l Thanks to the Collins online dictionary. clueless. (kluːləs ) adjective. If you describe someone as clueless, you are showing your disapproval of the fact that they do not know anything about a particular subject or that they are incapable of doing a particular thing properly. It seems to be an insult or rather too harsh to accuse someone of been clueless. Don’t even dare use it against the church. If there is an exposed wire in my electrical wiring of my house, it will spark every time both naked wires have contact. If I don’t know what to do next, no matter how many degrees I have acquired from Cambridge or Oxford Universities, it will be safe to say I was clueless. Many parents don’t really know what to do as first aid treatment for their kids. So if your kid has a high fever in the middle of the night at home and you have no access to medical care, you may become f...

WE HAVE ROBOT PREACHERS NOW. NOT JOKING!

Walking home from the office on Tuesday, I was caught by a news item on the BBC Newshour 20h edition. Robot priest unveiled in Germany.  As the news anchor tried frantically to point out the strangeness of the idea, the spokesperson for the church was all excited and self-feliciting for the "pioneer" work they are proud to have achieved.  I was like, What? What are you talking about?  Ironically, this work was made to commemorate the 500th anniversary life and work of Marthin Lurther. How ronical! It is stunning that God who would not even allow angels preach, such a lofty calling reserved only for Jesus' disciples now gradually transferred to robots!  The Mirror published online under the theme: "Robot 'preacher' can beam light from its hands and give automated blessings to worshippers." The mirror further explained, "Five hundred years after Luther published the Ninety-five Theses in Wittenberg, kicking off the Reformation, an...

CHURCH'S DEBT TO THE WORLD

The pride of the Church in any nation is not the number of large Cathedrals, public approval ratings or glamorous political considerations she receives but the number of converts, the growing of disciples and the number of nations she turns from idolatry to faith in Christ Jesus. Sometimes we are so wrapped up in excitement seeing how the church in her diversity is spread across our nation, the opposition of those days disappear and the Church finds increase acceptability. This excites us as we find a sense of satisfaction and achievement. We finally relax and begin to evolve. A man finely put his thoughts this way:      Hard time produce smart men ➡ Smart men produce good times ➡ Good times produce weak men ➡ weak men produce hard times➡ Hard times produce smart men If you observe very carefully, the above chart is a never ending circle. This can be said of the Church. "There is nothing in the world or the Church — except the church's disobedience — to...

THE YOUTH VOLT, TO BRIDLE OR UNBRIDLE?

There is a higher calling and a heavenly bidding upon our generation today. What will we do about it? Proverbs 20:29 says,  "The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old." NIV The youth is a well achitectured schematics and an extraordinary framework possessing a volcanic eruption that sets man apart from all other creatures. Even in the different stages of man's short sojourn on earth, the ages between 16 and 50 are considered the most effective, especially in sheer energy, zest and brute intellectual force. Nations, corporations, civil service framework worldwide, military recruitments as well as the corporate world selects and reinforce their youth stock for maximum fruitfulness. The Sport world is so keen about age. This is not a modern phenomenon only. In time past, conquering kingdoms carefully select as captives of war the best crop of male and female slaves to put them in places of effective service. We see that exactly ...

THE MAKING OF AN EFFECTIVE MISSION FIELD

The goal of Christian mission is to carry out the great commission Jesus left for those who believe in him. Matthew 28:   18  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Acts 1:8 " But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;  and you will be my witnesses  in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,  and to the ends of the earth.” Take note that Jesus did not say in either passage that a group of the disciples should reach the whole world and disciple the nations. He didn't say some from among you will remain in Jerusalem, while a few of you will go to Judea, then when you are done head on to ...

The Abnormally Normal Sunday Diary

Walking through the perfectly manicured lawn, walking towards the recently completed huge landmark excellently architectured sanctuary, I couldn't help but whisper "Thank You Jesus" for this great feat. We've come far, well far away from the ramshackle embarrassing facility we first worshipped in, through the non-ventilated stuffy hall we used for 12 years. God is good! Walking before me was a newly wed couple who grew up before us in this church and behind me was the only destist in town. Everyone in church is proud to belong to here. And so was I. This humble congregation boasts of the governor worshipping here 34 of the 52 Sundays in a year. And our church is a household name. I whispered beneath my breathe, God is good. I came to church 30 minutes before the worship begins and I have the time to welcome guest worshippers. My pastor has build a standard. And I have to be superbly dressed to my taste. Again coming early gives me time to go through my ...

Eternity's Little Ray of Light to the Heart

By David Pam McQuel Twenty-five years ago I served as a pastor for a mission-like church in rural Central Nigeria. A young woman called Esther who had lived a rough life and was despised by most people including her family came to church and had an encounter with God. Suddenly she had a heart change in 3 days and became the most noble young lady in the community in less than 6 months. Jesus touched her heart! This encounter started during an evening service as I taught on the work of transformation that the ministry of the Holy Spirit brings to reality, when the gospel is taught and man response approximately. This transform is what Ezekiel prophesied in Ezekiel 36:25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you t...

THE HINDERING DIVIDE

There is a great misconception in the church, it is the division that has set denominations against denominations. And this is a bad independent spirit that has hindered the church more than anything the devil could ever do. Jesus said, a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. This division has affected the love and fellowship of brothers and sisters in Christ more. When two believers meet, they are more conscious of which denomination they belong to than which body they both belong. We are the body of Christ! One body! Paul said in 1Corinthians 12:12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it wou...
