Chose Life

BY    D A V I D   P A M    M C Q U E L The obvious opposite of life is death. And no one in their right minds would be thinking about choosing death instead of life. But then, when you look closely at scriptural meaning of life, you will be perplexed that so many rightly chose death over life. I remember when Jesus was brought before Pilate. The Jewish leaders who brought him were so enraged beyond reason. They were driven by hatred so much that nothing else mattered. Luke 23:13-25 ”It was amazing that after Herod refused to condemn Jesus and he was brought back to Pilate for sentencing, the accusers, the Jewish leaders had two clear cut choices before them, Jesus the Messiah versus Barabbas, a violent murderous criminal. Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have ...

THE LAST STEPS

By David Pam McQuel Physical death is probably the worst effect of the curse. We will love to just live together forever with loved ones. Death comes to all, the times and methods may vary but it eventually comes. Somehow the body gets tired of fighting, gets worn out and just can't support the inner man anymore. So man returns to his Maker. In my 29 years of ministry, I have had a few occasions to officiate over burial ceremonies. Most of them people I pastored other times, total strangers. Every home going ceremony differs from the other. It is called home going because man returns to his eternal home. 2Corinthians 5:5  'For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, 3 if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. 4 For we who are in this t...

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BIRTHDAY

By David Pam McQuel How does it feel to be forty? Catherine has been wondering for months now. A mixture of anxiety, disappointment and uncertainty has beclouded her. She keeps this to herself.  Her melancholy tortures her with disapproval. Yet she has been more fortunate that many. Counting her blessings, her inner voice chastises her for ingratitude. She wasn't raised with silverspoon but she enjoyed luxury that a lot of kids only dream of. She went to a prestigious school, dressed well for every birthday and event, had family outtings and travel for vacations. Now as an adult, she has graduated and enjoys digit monthly pay package. She is married to the most Amazing husband and has two beautiful kids. Her husband, Nkodi, her best friends have been in frenzy about the birthday. They are crossing every "t" and doting every "i" appropriately, to give the 40 gorgeous perfumed candles she deserves.  Longlife is rewarding, good health, a blesse...

THE NEW LIFE

In ancient times there was a prophecy, God was fed up with the undulating walk of the Israelites. Today they are up tomorrow they are down. That walk has been particularly burdensome, for Israel but more for God. Working with an unreliable, unpredictable non-steadfast unregenerate people are the worst. No project ever gets done. It's equally burdensome to the unregenerate because he lacks the capability to do what God wants even though he may know. This was the biggest problem of the First Testament. Why is man unregerate in the first place. Death. There are three main kinds of death in the Bible. 1. Physical death is the most know. Every man dies. ★Ecclesiastes 3:2  "a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot." The bible, history and tradition establish the fact about physical death. Besides, everyone knows somebody who once lived but no longer does. 2. Spiritual Death is less known. This is separation from God. This...

Setback: My Personal Travail as a Missionary, the Triumph of Faith

"I am destined to proclaim the message, unmindful of personal consequences to myself." – Count Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf Her: "Daddy, Victor is not breathing." Me: "What? How? For how long?" Her: "since 7:00" I will never forget that infamous conversation between my wife and I on the 18th of December 2014. Within a minute, I was both sweating and shaking. In an hours time, she told me how my pastors and church members have gathered and were praying for Victor to come back to life. I tried praying, I couldn't find the right words. I spoke in tongues for a while. Then I called my pastor in Lagos. I told him what was going on. He started praying. He has been involved from the start when Victor was diagnosed with an abnormal heart. I was in the Ivory Coast barely six months. Starting a new mission post as an independent missionary is a wild life. You are on your own. No money, no salary and no promise of any monthly remit...
